The swissbox was developed here in Switzerland,
was built in Switzerland, is only distributed
through Swiss retailers, and is serviced, upon
request, by your local Swiss partner. Thus, the name swissbox.
swissbox
is an integrated hardware/software solution, which is based on
the Microsoft Server, the Microsoft Search Server Express, and
a high-performing hardware that makes company-wide search
possible. Based on Windows Server technology, swissbox includes
the Windows SharePoint Services in addition to the
productivity environment.
In the swissbox user interface, you have the choice
between German, French, Italian, and English. The
administrative section (server) is consistently presented
in English.
Users can also explicitly search for documents
of a specific language.
The swissbox is a search solution specialized for intranets.
Our search solution specializes in intranets. Because a majority
of information is available in classic file shares, SharePoint
based systems, or Exchange Public Folders, these can be
searched through without any changes to the infrastructure. At
the same time, existing security settings will be
automatically incorporated. Also, the embedding of further
content queries such as Lotus Notes, EMC Documentum, or IBM
FileNet is possible.
There are no restrictions on the period of use.
When you obtain a swissbox, you have the right to
use it for any period of time.
The swissbox has no set limit on the number of items to be
indexed. The exact number depends on the size of the amount
of data to be indexed. With the configuration selected by
us, you can index between 150,000 - +400,000 items. If you
would like to index a larger database, you can expand/upgrade
the swissbox or evaluate the Microsoft Office SharePoint
Server 2007. Our solutions partners are happy to help you
in this process.
The swissbox runs on the well-known Windows Server
Platform. The pertinent license is already included.
No, if you run a valid Windows domain, you are already
in possession of Windows Client Access Licenses.
Security is one of the prerequisites of modern intranet
searching. At the time of indexing, our search
solution makes certain that a user is only shown
results which he has permission to access.
Yes, the new Microsoft Office 2007 xml based
formats can be indexed and searched as well.
No, the swissbox integrates seamlessly into
your existing environment. It uses Windows authentication.
That means you are automatically registered using
the Windows identification from your domain.
You can also log out at any time and register
again using another user account (name and password required).
The swissbox was optimized to ensure a simple
startup process. The complete installation is
completed in under an hour.
By means of the Federated Search, your users receive
not only the results from your intranet, but at the
same time results from additional sources such as Wikipedia,
Technet, Live Search, or Yahoo. These could also be results
from another system such as your inventory system or your
customer database.
You can find an initial overview concerning this, in English,
here
When it comes to the swissbox, it’s a question of a
single server. In order to ensure the highest possible
availability, only selected server components needed for
the 24/7 operation are used, plus a continuous data reflection
onto hard-drive sections is carried out (RAID). This further
ensures that even in the case of a hard-drive crash, your
users can continue searching without interruption.
Yes, the swissbox uses a style sheet (css) in which layout
information is saved. 19 various layouts are included, which
can be selected by means of the preview function; you can
also change or add to these layouts at will.
The backup tool is an integral part of the swissbox.
This allows a complete backup of all settings and
configurations to be carried out. As such, if worst
comes to worse, all information can be easily imported
once again; the same stands true if a new set-up must
be carried out.
The Backup/Restore function can be found in the Central
Administration -> Operations -> Backup/Restore
If you would like to begin anew, you can reset the
swissbox at any time to its factory settings by booting
via the swissbox Image. Afterward, you can, of course,
import your backup once again.
In the default settings, apply the Windows authentications
from your domain for the swissbox. The following, in
addition to others, are supported: LDAP; Form Based
Authentication; SSO; Kerberos; ...
Yes, the swissbox supports the OpenSearch Standard
and is itself OpenSearch compatible.
